Talking Therapies
Connecting dyslexia & anxiety
Individuals with dyslexia often experience heightened levels of stress and anxiety as a result of their challenges and inconsistencies in their performance. Fear of failure, fear of exams, and avoidance of certain tasks are commonly observed.
Using a range of talking therapies, I work with children and adults to help build self-esteem, reduce or eradicate anxiety, and help individuals to believe in themselves.
Approaches I Use
01
EMDR - Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing
I use this form of psychotherapy to weaken emotionally charged memories of past events, which may also be traumatic. Rather than relying on the individual to talk through their experiences I guide one’s own rapid, rhythmic eye movements. This approach is particularly effective in treating PTSD.
02
CBT - Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
A solution-focused talking therapy. I’ll challenge repetitive thought patterns and break them down. CBT is a great way to change unwanted behaviours and can be effective with children as young as 7 years.
03
NLP - Neuro-Linguistic Programming
Using this approach I help to change thought processes, behaviours and beliefs. Free yourself/your child to be the person you/they really want to be.
04
EFT - Emotional Freedom Technique
A form of psychological acupressure closely related to traditional acupuncture. I use simple tapping to input kinetic energy onto specific meridians on the head and chest while you/your child are invited to think about specific problem areas and voice positive affirmations.
05
Hypnosis
An induced state of deep relaxation. During hypnosis, the rational part of the brain is temporarily bypassed making the subconscious part, which influences mental and physical functions, receptive to therapy. This is a perfect approach to consolidate any change work.
06
Timeline therapy
Concerned with how we unconsciously store our memories and significant emotional events along a line from the past, through the present, to the future. I support the unconscious mind to detect the root cause of a negative emotion or limiting belief which can then be released and resolved on an unconscious level.
07
Coaching
Great to address specific challenges that you/your child may feel stuck or blocked with. I’ll help you/your child identify, understand and approach your problem in a systematic and goal-focused manner.
08
Mindfulness
A simple form of meditation requiring a focus of full attention on the present moment. You/your child will come to experience that thoughts and feelings (including negative ones) are transient. It’s a practice of observation without criticism and being compassionate with yourself. Compassion based therapies are interlinked and entwined with this approach which looks at being kind and nurturing ourselves.
09
Tuning fork therapy
Tuning fork therapy is a sonic vibrational healing practice that use the vibrations of the forks on and around the physical body to tune and balance the nervous system. Specific frequencies and vibrations from the tuning forks can help alleviate pain, loosen tight muscles, release emotional trauma, ease stress and therefore allow energy to flow smoothly throughout the body. This results in a sense of calm, ease, and overall well-being.
This approach is safe and suitable for all ages. Children particularly love this approach, especially when they don’t wish to engage in taking therapy or are “talked out!”.
10
Sound Therapy
Sound therapy can help with anxiety, depression, insomnia, pain, and in releasing both physical and emotional blocks.
